10 years...

That's how long it took my mom to make this blanket for me!  I can't remember exactly when she started it, but it's been at LEAST 10 years!  She finally gave it to me a couple of weeks ago!

She's going to get started on a baby blanket as soon as we know the sex, so we should hopefully have that before the child graduates high school!  Ha!

We just returned from a vacation to the Dominican Republic, so I'll have pictures from that soon!

Happy Anniversary to us!

Brian & I celebrated our 5 year anniversary this weekend.  We kept it very low key with dinner downtown at Hyman's Seafood. It's a great seafood place that Laurie & Scott introduced us to when we first moved here.  They have plates hanging all over the restaurant that have been decorated by various customers over the years.  I made one in honor of our anniversary.  I forgot to take a picture of it though.  Oh well!  I'll have to wander all over the restaurant the next time I'm in there so I can find it & snap a pic.  After dinner, we took a carriage ride through downtown.  It was nice.  I tried to take some pictures, but it was a little bumpy & they didn't come out very well.  I did get the guy in front of us to take our picture though.

On Sunday, Brian & I wandered around a bit & did some shopping.  He found a hat that he particularly liked.  I thought it was hilarous.

What do you think?  Leave me a comment with your thoughts on this hat.  He really wants one & has been threatening to get one in black, if he can find one.  Yikes!

After much struggling, I was finally able to get the videos of Baby Lewis uploaded.  I had to do it on another website, so click the link below to check it out.

Fishing Trip

| | Comments (0)

Hi all!  Some friends took us fishing this past weekend.  Here are a few photos of our adventures.  The water was a little rough, so we didn't get to go out as far as we wanted.  We went out to the jetties where I caught this baby shark!

babyshark1.JPG

We threw him back, of course!  But the struggle to catch him was fun!  Brian wasn't as lucky in his fishing.  He caught this shell, but didn't want to pose with it.  He also caught a blue crab later, but it got away before I could snap a picture.

The wind beagan to pick up, so we came back & cruised the intercoastal waterway for a bit.  Brian was drained from all the fun!!

I tried to take a few pictures of the scenery, but didn't get very many as the water was rough & I was trying to keep myself & the camera dry!

More info on Baby Lewis to come!  Stay tuned!

We had our first ultrasound yesterday.  Only one baby in there (much to the dismay of many, but we are perfectly happy with one)!  Here's Baby's First Picture!

We'll get to have another ultrasound next week, so more pictures to come!!

Memorial Day Weekend

| | Comments (0)

I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend.  I had a friend in town & the weather was beautiful, so we hit the beach!

While we were there, we met a girl with THE BIGGEST dog I've ever seen!  His name is Oliver & he's awesome!

bigdog1.JPG

This picture doesn't really do him justice!  He's 240 lbs & only 2 years old!  That's his human standing next to him.  Isn't he great?

bigdog2.JPG
With it being a holiday weekend, the beach was quite crowded.  We rode around for a long time before we found a place to park.  After we staked out our place on the sand, we were quickly surrounded by other sunbathers.

I was enjoying the sights and sounds of the ocean, when this guy plopped down and obstructed my view!

yikes1.JPG
And to make matters worse, he was sitting spread eagle right in front of children building a sand castle!

It was quite scary, but very hilarious!  Too bad I didn't have this pic in time for Katey's 200th post contest!  I would have won hands down!  Hope everybody has a great weekend!

I'll post again soon!

Happy Birthday to me!

| | Comments (1)

Last week was my birthday & I got lots of goodies, along with visits from friends & family.

The week before my birthday was spring break for some schools.  My friend, Cherie (who I taught with in Columbia), came to town & we got together for drinks at Red's.  Red's is a popular place on Shem Creek.  It's really beautiful there.  The night we went there were dolphins & pelicans swimming around in the harbor.  The dolphins wouldn't pose for a pic & the pelicans weren't very photogenic, but I got this great shot of the harbor as the sun was setting.

Laurie was in town on my actual birthday & we went to a Japanese place for lunch.  Mmmmmm, white sauce!

White sauce is the most delicious condiment there is.  I could pour it over everything.  In fact, I'd be happy just to order a bowl of white sauce & put some rice in that!  Yum!  Of course, there's always leftovers when eating Japanese, so I asked for a small container to put my white sauce in for later.  They gave me a bowl, which Laurie happily filled up for me!  Thanks, Laurie!

Hubby took me to a fancy dinner where he ordered the largest prime rib I've ever seen!  30 ounces!!!  I was shocked when they brought it out to the table!

meat2.JPG

This picture really doesn't do it justice!  It was enormous!  Brian was very embarrassed when I took out my camera & started taking pics of his plate at this 5 star restaurant!  But that's what he gets for ordering such a massive entree.  Plus, he ought to know well enough by now that if I see something ridiculous, I'm going to take a picture.

I also got a dozen roses from Hubby.  Aren't they pretty?

Since my birthday fell in the middle of the week, my parents decided to come the Sunday prior to "celebrate" my birthday.  Mom baked a cake & I opened presents, etc.  I was relieved that she didn't try to put 32 candles on there.

party3.JPG

Brian was taking pics with my camera during the festivities.  Of course, no one was ready to take a picture when I actually blew out the candles, so this is a re-enactment.

Here's another pic Hubby took during the party.  My dad always does this to me & since Hubby is becoming more and more like my father all the time, he felt the need to do it too.  And thought it was the funniest thing ever!

I got lots of nice things for my birthday; gift cards to Ann Taylor & Books-a-Million, a shirt from my friend Missy, & a book from my brother.  When I opened the book (which came via USPS), I laughed out loud!  I can't wait to start reading it!

Thanks to everyone who helped me have a great birthday!  I'm so blessed to have great friends & family like you!

Pictures, Pictures, Pictures!

The Ravenel Bridge is a very long & beautiful bridge between Charleston & Mt. Pleasant.  It has a walkway on one side for walkers, joggers, bicycles, etc.  I've been wanting to walk across it since I moved here.  The annual bridge run is being held on April 5.  I thought about entering this 10k race, but there were a couple of problems with this.  First of all, it's 10K!!!!  Not only are you walking across the bridge, but you have to walk a long way down Coleman Blvd before you get the bridge & way down Meeting St after crossing the bridge.  That's freaking long!  Also, you have to be lined up to start the race at 6:30am.  No thanks!  So, I decided to walk it another time at a more reasonable hour.  My mom was in town this past weekend, so we decided to try it.

bridge1.JPG

As you approach the bridge, there's a nice little sign that tells about the person it was named for, Arthur Ravenel, Jr.  I forget why he's important.  Also, just on the other side of this sign is a porto-potty.  If you plan to walk the bridge, I strongly suggest you use the bathroon first.  This porto-potty does not come high recommended though.  I also suggest you don't drink a lot of water as you walk across.  A tip my mom wished she had followed as we reached the other side.

The most prominent feature is the cable structure.

This seemed like a cool shot.  From the base of the cables-straight up.  When Laurie was here, she kept making Scott get in the center lane & slow down so she could try to take a pic of the cables from underneath.  I don't think it was successful though.

The long journey back!  I was too tired to take any pictures of our return trip.  We were tired, hungry, & had to use the bathroom.  We seriously considered calling Laurie/Scott to come pick us up & take us back to our cars.  But we persevered & made it back!

So, a few tips I picked up for next time:

1.  Use the bathroom before you go.

2.  No water on the way.

3.  Bring snacks (it's a very long bridge & we were wishing we had something to munch on as we walked back.)

All in all, it was fun!  If the Snarkys ever make a trip to Charleston, we should definitely put walking the bridge on our list of things to do!
